The Berry Fund
Jack G. Berry was born in Ashley, Illinois and came to Texas in the early 1940’s. He met his future wife , Kathleen, “Kay” Kohfeldt, a native Denisonian, while they worked together at the State National Bank of Denison. Jack returned to Denison after serving in World War II, Jack and Kay married soon after and had three daughters. Jack continued his career in banking, eventually serving as Chairman of the Board before his retirement in 1979. Through the years, the Berrys were steadfast in their belief of giving to others. They valued their community and they served at Church and volunteered their time and talents to many local charities.
The Berry Fund was established by daughters Kathleen, Kristine and Karel Anne to continue the altruistic legacy of their parents. This fund focuses on the health care needs of local children. At the present time, the Berry Fund provides scholarships to Camp Sweeney in Gainesville, TX. Camp Sweeney is a residential camp for children ages 5–18 who have been diagnosed with diabetes. After more than 60 years of operation, Camp Sweeney is regarded as one of the largest and most effective diabetes educational facilities in the world. Mr. Berry served on the board of directors of Camp Sweeney for many years.
